Never accept anyone's excuse to hurt someone else as no matter what you feel is done to you, another person will have had equal if not worse though history. In fact 99% of people will not have suffered anything like what happened. We've (the modern world) has allowed Victimhood to be an excuse for regression and the loss of humanity.
